From the Des Moines Register -- December 9, 2004 Cool show alert Joe Lawler, Register Staff Writer
Born from the ashes of the polkadelic klezmer band The Kabalas, The Metrolites mix lounge music with jazz, surf rock, '60s spy movie themes and other oddities. The Quad Cities based weirdos will perform at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the House of Bricks, 3839 Merle Hay Road.
The Metrolites use some unusual instruments to create their sound, including a digital xylophone and electric ukulele. Their music is equal parts Morricone, Mancini and Ramones, with B-movie inspired titles, like "Gunfight at the Zombie Mineshaft," "Cyclops Optometrist" and "The Abominable Dr. Vibes." While they may sound like a novelty act, the group has a ton of talent and band leaders Scott Morschhauser and Neal Smith have been recording together for years. In October The Metrolites released their first album, "In Spy-Fi."
Admission is $5. Call 727-4370.
